This is definitely in the “must do event” category from those who have done it. This year is the 10th Anniversary of the event and promises to be great sailing and full of fun. Whilst it is professionally run, it’s not a full on IRC event and is very suited to the people who are looking for great sailing, lots of fun and events, and perhaps want to bring family along or a bunch of friends.
To make it easier, of note will be a “cruise in company” departing around August 29th near Hamilton Island to Townsville. It’s designed to assist owners to cruise up to the event with others (often without the full crew ) stopping overnight for a BBQ at “Cape Upstart National Park (famous for Dugongs), then proceeding to Townsville the next day. Townsville Yacht Club will then host the yachts overnight, then over the Maggie Island the Day of Registration. Many yachts often have the Maggie Island Race Crew & family fly into Townsville and its then only a short trip to Maggie Island.
